Freiburg Neuroscience Lecture | Matthew Larkum

This talk presents a theory of cortex based on the architecture and the physiology of the components. The theory is based on recordings from neurons in rodent neocortex that imply that the fundamental unit is much more complicated than the traditional integrate-and-fire neuron used in many of models today.

Nevertheless, the complexity at the single neuron level yields a simpler explanation of cortex with predictive power. In this lecture, I will explore the more recent successes of this approach and talk about ongoing research in both rodents and humans based on these principles.
