The subject of neuroethics is to investigate the ethical, legal and social impact of neuroscience. More specifically, this concerns the ways in which human behaviour can be altered with neurotechnology and how such technology can further be used to predict human behaviour. For this purpose it seeks to integrate ethical and social thought into neuroscientific knowledge and balance risks and benefits in neuroscience projects. The concept and discussion of free will in the context of neurotechnology is therefore at the center of neuroethics.
In Freiburg, neuroethics seeks to involve the public in an open discussion through various events and initiatives, which take place in the Bernstein Werkstatt and other public venues.
